Diary of a Pandemic, Video Essay, Google Map
Because of this global pandemic, I began to reflect on if it is a metaphor of the accelerating modernity. And what is the new interaction mode between human and nature in this era.
I started wandering on the Google Map during isolation. Coincidentally, I met a woman by the Regent’s Canal. Every step she was by my side. This wonderful sense of accompany drove me to walk with her all the way from Paddington to Camden Town. I confided to her about my fears and worries, talked about my childhood memory. I gave her a name—Lucy, which is also the name of that 3.2 million years old female ape. I followed her all the way through the bridge and tunnel, as if I had experienced the development of human civilization.
We touched the defense mechanism of nature and nature refused our entry. The irony is that we have to go back to the virtual nature through technology to reflect on ourselves. This is not only my personal emotional record, but also a testimony of our current social situation.
